Celebrating Black History Month

Now on display on the Main Floor “Celebrating Black History Month”, highlights Ashland’s rich African American culture and history.  A special collection of paintings by local artist Jerry Johnson comprise the majority of the exhibit.  His works encompass a variety of themes including Africa, Haiti, and prominent black musicians.  Also on display in “Celebrating Black History Month” is a section dedicated to Professor R.W. Ross.  Ross taught at Booker T. Washington School and served as the Tennis Director at Ashland’s Central Park Tennis Courts from 1946-1975.  In 2010 Ross was posthumously inducted into the Kentucky Tennis Hall of Fame.  Personal items of his are on display including one of his tennis racquets.
