STARLAB Presentations

Learn about astronomy with one of the following presentations in our portable planetarium! The Night Sky, Native American Constellations, Greek Mythology, Weather Patterns of the World or African Constellations and Mythology.

Cost and Set-up Requirements: STARLAB rental is $250 for one day with up to five sessions inside the dome. For more sessions or days in the same week, contact the museum for cost information on mileage and staff time. The STARLAB dome needs a clean indoor floor space 21’ by 21’ and a ceiling clearance of 12’

The Museum also offers an annual professional development certification training to learn the basics of the STARLAB system. STARLAB is then available to those who have completed this training for rental on a weekly basis by their schools or organizations. Contact the museum for more information.
 

Outreach Discovery Workshops

General Information for Outreach Discovery Workshops:

Outreach Discovery Workshops are designed to provide an enrichment opportunity for the classroom or after-school program. Workshops are approximately one hour in length and are designed for a classroom of 25-30 children. Outreach Discovery Workshops cost $95 per hour plus travel expenses if workshop location is within 100 miles of the Highlands Museum & Discovery Center. For workshop locations further than 100 miles from the Highlands Museum & Discovery Center, workshop cost is $95 per hour plus travel expenses (including overnight accommodations for the facilitator). A museum facilitator and all supplies are included.

Challenge Your Mind and Body! (Gr. K-6) Having a special event inside or outside and want a unique blend of health, physics….and fun? Includes the best of our science, engineering, physics and health activities from our FETCH! Challenge Lab! Digging Even Deeper (Gr. K-6) Dig deeper as you investigate the past. Learn how archeologists use artifacts and other clues to determine how ancient people lived. Design and create a Native American winter count using symbols similar to Native American glyphs. Slime Time (Gr. 2-6) Is it a solid or is it a liquid? Learn the definition of a non-Newtonian substance and find out how they are used in everyday life. Make a cup of slime to take home.
