Highlanders HeroCon 2018 was a HUGE success! We saw a record crowd this year and had a blast with new gaming tournaments, lightsaber duels, and a DJ Darth Vader dance party epic ending to an epic day! Congratulations to the CosPlay contest winners and for all the patrons who came dressed in their fabulous costumes! A special thanks to the many vendors and artisans who joined us as well and to all the panel guests and celebrity performers, such as Clint Mcelroy! We can’t wait ’till next year!

Highlanders HeroCon2018 is an all ages Comics, CosPlay, and Gaming fundraiser for the museum. It’s a celebration of fantasy, fiction, and fun for children and adults alike. This year, we’re expanding the conference to include gaming – video gaming, table top gaming, board games, even an escape room from Tri-State Escape on Winchester. There will be celebrity artists, like Nelson DeCastro, famed Marvel and DC inker, who has penned covers for Wolverine, Iron Man, Elektra, and a plethora of Magic the Gathering cards. There will be board game tournaments, hosted by local comic book shops, such as TimeWarp of Ashland and Goblin Traders of Ironton. There will be food vendors, such as My Dads Pizza, and plenty of free activities for our littlest patrons, such as free face painting, and gross motor play with Big Blue Blocks where children can try and leap big blocks in a single bound. And last, but not least, HeroCon offers a whimsical and safe outlet for costume play (CosPlay) for all ages, wherein anyone can dress up as their favorite superhero or comic book character, with a costume contest held at the end of the day with cash prizes for both youth and adults! This event inspires the imaginations of our youth to dream big and do big within our community, and we’re partnering with Boyd County Public library to provide free laser tag for the day, and Ashland Tourism to theme April 6th as a “Superhero First Friday” which will be a great springboard for HeroCon the following day on April 7th.

$8/general admission $5/children and museum members
$20/VIP (t-shirt + 1hr early entry)

The event is held on the 4th Floor of the Highlands Museum, called Highlands Center, and is accessible through the Community Trust Parking Garage located behind the museum at: 344 16th St., Ashland, KY 41101.
