Museum to reopen on February 11

Major changes are happening at the Highlands Museum & Discovery Center.  After being awarded a $500,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Kentucky and a $125,000 matching grant from the Woodlands Foundation, construction is now underway to update the museum’s restrooms, doors, and elevator making them more accessible and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.  After being closed for two weeks the museum will reopen on Saturday, February 11.  Construction is still underway as the renovations will take several weeks to complete.  Because of this there may be some noisiness and dust at the museum as well as limited restroom availability.  We apologize for the inconvenience to our community.  Updates related to the construction and operating hours will be posted on our website ( and social media pages.  People are also welcome to contact the museum directly at 606-329-8888 with any questions.
